Dennis Callahan grew up in the middle of the U.S., but has spent over half his life in New York City. After graduating from college, he was offered a job in the ensemble of the original production of “La Cage aux Folles” on Broadway, for which he eventually became Dance Captain. He travelled to Vienna in 1988 to teach at the school affiliated with Theater an der Wien. As a result of that teaching job, he was asked to do the choreography for “Elisabeth”, which will celebrate its 20 year revival in Vienna in 2012. Dennis Callahan also made staging of choreography for “Elisabeth” throughout Germany and Japan. In Vienna, for the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, he has had the privilege of choreographing “Grease”, “Mozart!”, and “Tanz der Vampire”. “Tanz” has taken him to various cities in Germany, as well as Poland, Hungary, and now, Russia. This is not Dennis' first time to Russia, however. In 1988, he performed in a joint Russian/American production of Duke Ellington's “Sophisticated Ladies” in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Tblisi.
Back in New York, he has been involved with Radio City Music Hall and its world-renowned Christmas Show since 1994. He has travelled all over the U.S. directing the show, and will be Associate Choreographer for the upcoming Spring Spectacular at Radio City in 2013. For 20 years, he has been fortunate to travel between continents doing what he loves to do best, and among his productions Dennis Callahan marks out in particular musicals “Elisabeth” and “Tanz der Vampire”.
